BEARING FRUIT (Gloria Tugume)
Jesus is the vine, God is the vine-dresser and we are the branches. every branch that withers or does not bear fruit is cut off and every branch that bears fruits he continuously prunes to bear more fruit.
There is no branch that can be fruitful unless it is attached on a tree. Similarly, we can never bear fruits unless we remain in Jesus.
Jesus looked at a fig that looked fruitful but only to find no fruits as he approached the tree and he had to curse it. Mark 11:12-20. This teaches us that we should not only be righteous on the physical, and spiritually barren. If so Jesus will have nothing to do with us.
We also need to know the type or kind of fruit that one is bearing. That is quality matters.
2 cor 2:15
We should, therefore, be careful with the way we live, so as to not stumble people around us. For our purpose is to bear fruit for the Kingdom of God and bring glory to His name.
We should live a life that is worthy of salvation Matt 5:13-16.
AREAS OF BEARING FRUIT
Repentance; sin is an issue that we are supposed to deal with firmly. When we sin we need to bring repentance before the Lord and deal with that issue, and not live in compromise. Christianity is not necessarily a smooth journey, this is so because we have to live our lives in obedience to the word of God. Matt 3:8, 2 Peter 2:22, Gal 5:22-26
Discipline and self-control; Sin holds us firmly and this is sourced by the enemy. Pride has taken over and is destroying Christians as we tend to hide some things all in the name of protecting our dignity which the enemy uses to rule over our lives. Rom 8:5, Heb 12:9, 1 Peter 5:8.
Where your mind is focused is where your body is; we have the Spirit of God that enables us to overcome our past and our fleshly desires. Therefore if your mind is focused on Godly issues you’ll definitely bear fruits.
Joy and thankfulness; our joy as born again Christians is not determined by the circumstances around us but our joy comes from the Lord. 2 Cor 8:1-2, 1 Thes 5:18.
Maturity and wisdom; we must learn from our lessons and make the right decisions. Prov 1:20.
Loyalty and faithfulness; Heb 10:26, Rev 3:16, Luke 16:12
